Sue Maslin, Producer/Director

The Dressmaker with Kate Winslet is her latest and possibly her most accomplished film to date. It establishes her as one of Australia’s more prolific feature film producers.

A multi award-winning screen producer and director, Sue Maslin is a graduate of both The Australian National University (1981), and The Australian Film Television and Radio School (2013). Sue’s professional career gained traction in 1988 with the documentary Thanks Girls and Goodbye, which she co-directed and co-produced.

Several documentaries and feature films followed, including Mr. Neal is Entitled to be an Agitator (1991), Conspiracy (1994), Road to Nhill (winner Best Film Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1997), The Highest Court (1998), The Edge of the Possible (1998), A Mirror to the People (2000), Japanese Story in 2003, (winner of 26 international awards), Michael Kirby – Don’t Forget the Justice Bit (2010), and most recently, The Dressmaker (2015).

Sue formed a development and distribution company, Film Art Media, in 2008 with Daryl Dellora, and released the documentary Celebrity: Dominick Dunne later that year. Since then, she has produced a number of interactive documentaries and was a long-standing board member for the Adelaide Film Festival.

As producer, her latest feature film is currently receiving rave reviews as it makes its way though American and Australian cinemas. The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet, Liam Hemsworth, Judy Davis and Hugo Weaving, is a captivating Australian story set in western Victoria in the mid-50’s. Described by director Jocelyn Moorhouse as “Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven with a sewing machine,” The Dressmaker is being hailed as a future Australian classic.
