Robert De Niro

robert de niro“One of the things about acting is it allows you to live other people’s lives without having to pay the price”.

American actor and producer Robert De Niro has starred in over 90 films. Martin Scorsese’s 1973 crime film ‘Mean Streets’ was one of his first major film roles and put De Niro on the map as a character actor. In 1972, he turned down for the role of Sonny Corleone in ‘The Godfather’, however, 1974 he was cast as the young Vito Corleone in ‘The Godfather Part II’ and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Raging Bull’, ‘The Deer Hunter’, ‘Heat’, ‘Awakenings’, ‘Cape Fear’, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, ‘Goodfellas’, ‘Backdraft’, ‘Meet the Parents’ are just a few of his legendary films. He has Won 2 Oscars, with another 42 award wins & 76 nominations.

Born in New York City on August 17, 1943, De Niro left school at age 16 to study method acting with Stella Adler. He then worked with many acclaimed film directors, including Brian DePalma, Elia Kazan and Martin Scorsese.

In 1980, De Niro put on 60 pounds and portrayed a middleweight boxer Jake La Motta in the commercially unsuccessful but critically adored film ‘Raging Bull’ winning and Academy Award for best actor.

He made his directorial debut in 1993 with ‘A Bronx Tale’, a film adaptation of a one-man play written and performed by Chazz Palminteri.

In 1999, he broke into comedy and relaunched his career, along side Billy Crystal with ‘Analyze This’, a hilarious popular spoof about the mob films. Followed by the smash hit comedy ‘Meet the Parents’ in 2000, starring Ben Stiller as his future son-in-law. “I have nipples Greg, could you milk me?” With two box office sequels, ‘Meet the Fockers’ in 2004 with Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand and ‘Little Fockers’ in 2011, De Niro was back.

He gave an Academy Award nominated performance as the father of a mentally troubled son, played by Bradley Cooper, in 2012’s ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ that was directed by David O. Russell.

Co founder of the film studio ‘TriBeCa Productions’ with producer Jane Rosenthal, they are also the co-founders of the ‘Tribeca Film Festival’ with Craig Hatkoff.
